STARS demo at Physical Security Review Board meeting

Software demonstration and status report

October 22, 1998 -- For the 4th consecutive year, Dr. Stifler was invited to attend the PSRB held at CINCPACFLT in Pearl Harbor. To an audience of approximately 70 senior security officers, he gave a demonstration and presentation of STARS for Windows. This presentation was followed by a question and answer session about STARS's future implementation Navy-wide.

Dr. Stifler demonstrated the graphing capabilities that are part of the new STARS for Windows. These graphing functions are designed to allow you to quickly and easily see crime trends and do statistical analyses of offense data derived from the output of your Crosstab Report. These graphing functions were received with enthusiastic approval.

Among the planned enhancements, future versions of STARS will include:

  • Improved search functions for people, property, enclosures and vehicles
  • Desk Journal statistics
  • Photo capture for Pass & ID
  • Traffic Accident Report
  • Domestic Violence / Dispute Report

The primary topic in the question and answer session was the regional implementation of STARS. During the coming months, the San Diego region will be a test region in which STARS will be implemented across several commands. During this testing period, COMNAVBASE San Diego will be centralizing its dispatch operations, while allowing the various tenant commands and ships to access the central security database.
